Jody went to be with Jesus on February 26, 2026. His celebration started as he gets to see his best friend-his brother Raney, Mother- Margie and father- Calvin Phelps. Jody came to Greensboro from Virginia in 78-80's after losing his Mother.
Jody was a burley man who loved fishing, hunting and building and rebuilding almost anything. He loved taking things apart and making them work again. Jody loved working the dirt from growing a garden to planting colorful flowers he appreciated the beauty from God.
Jody was my life partner of 38 years and believed in supporting and safeguarding our family. I am going to miss this quite strong supportive figure in my life. I miss that soft place to land when life would get overwhelming. We shared many adventures that I can draw comfort from. Including how much he loved my parents. Jody made their life a little easier for them as he liked to do for others. That made him even more special to me.
Jody set a good example for our children, and he leaves us with lots of memories and laughs to enjoy. Jody was my soul mate, my person and Jody's leaving us brings an unmeasurable amount of grief. We will celebrate his life and know that he is free of health issues.
Jody leaves behind wife- Lori Hunt Phelps and his beloved family- Brian Ray, Angele Denise, Dusty Lynn, Cindy and Chris and their spouses and children. Jody's siblings Linda, Lee, Tracy and Lois of various locations of Virginia. April and his best friend/brother Raney who are celebrating his homecoming who have already gone to be with the Lord.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at George Brothers Funeral Service followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
